Many of us have a front door that opens unceremoniously and without any apology directly into the living area or a neglected hallway. This area is so often overlooked when it really should be a great space that sets the tone for the rest of your house. So how can you create a great welcome and a bit of wow factor for yourself and guests coming into your home?
Here are 5 easy ways to pull this space together the RoomLab way.
1. Add a Console Table
You’ll gain storage for keys, post, and (if there’s a lower shelf) even shoes — all the paraphernalia that ends up cluttering the space the second you get home. Add some decorative elements like a candle or your favourite flowers to make you smile as soon as you step through the door.
2. Add an Area Rug
An area rug or a floor mat that fits the entry space will zone the space and enhance the perception that you really do have a hallway and an area worth caring about. And, in practical terms, a rug will also help capture some of the inevitable dirt and mud that will come through the front door – look out for durable fabrics or machine-washable options.
What better way to cast warmth on the window to your home than with some gorgeous lighting choices? Choose a great pendant light to add some drama and height to your space. Or if you have room for a console table choose a lamp and a wall mirror behind it to really bounce light around the space.
4. Take some time to reflect, literally
Every, and we mean every, entry hall should have a mirror and not just because they give you that final “yes, I look good today” check. Mirrors are a great way of reflecting natural light, and can also give the impression of a larger space.
5. Show your colours!
Painting the interior of your door lets you play with fun colour combinations. It’s also an inexpensive step so can always be changed or updated when you tire of your latest combo! If that’s a bit too much, consider just painting the edge of your door for a bit of fun and to create a little colour pop.
