The Velvet Hour: How to source the perfect velvet piece for your home

It was predicted as one of the big trends of 2019 and our love for velvet has certainly lived up to the hype.  Be it in fashion or interiors, this tactile surface that has taken both our homes and wardrobes by storm.  This week on the blog I highlight some of my favourite interiors pieces in this glorious fabric to keep you right on trend, and it need not cost the earth.

Traditionally, velvet was made for Royalty and weaved from silk and then later cotton.  Its huge popularity means that there are now synthetic versions available which makes it more affordable.

Velvet actually refers to the weave and structure and not the actual content of the material which means velvet can be made from any fibre.

Known for working particularly well in dark and jewel colours but it can also look divine in paler pastel hues.

VELVET CHAIRS

It was only about 4 years ago that I saw a velvet bedroom chair in the window of Oliver Bonas and thought how unusual it was – how different – to have a velvet accent in your home.  We’ve gone a long way since and despite normally shying away from trends once they become too popular, mine, and the Nations love for velvet has grown.
